Ciara

Hello and welcome to my corner of the internet. My alpha reader recently asked me if I write straight romance, or if I ever will, and the answer is yes, there are some fantastic straight pairings in my fantasy that I consider couple goals. Much of what I have been writing the last ten years is LGBTQIA+ and poly romance. One could say I’m writing what I wish I could have read more of when I was younger. Like many romance authors, I came of age on fanfiction, as a reader only. I’ve never written fanfic, so I swear, I’m not hiding any. The only books in my trunk are ones that really aren’t ready for public consumption.

I’ve lived and worked in the USA, the People’s Republic of China, Japan, and South Korea, but my bucket list of places still left to see is almost as long as the list of stories I know are still inside, waiting to be written. Believe me, the days at the desk are long. We’ll get most of them out, eventually…I can feel my partner and my alpha reader rolling their eyes. Let’s cross our fingers, okay?

These days I balance writing, studying Chinese as a hobby, and managing non-epileptic seizures. Ask me why I’m so passionate about walkable cities, seriously! Do you know how hard it is to do things in the U.S. when you don’t drive? I adore dogs, cats, goats, red pandas, snow leopards, and horses. My favorite books growing up were largely horse books–Black Stallion had a grip on my heart.

Please share your favorite pet or travel pictures and tell me where you are reading!

  1. Hi! I’d love to read Pegasus King as it comes highly recommended, but I can’t seem to locate anything besides the first chapter. Of course I’d be willing to pay for it.

  2. Hi Ciara. Thanks for visiting and following my blog. Your blog looks interesting. I used to write fantasy when I first started, but gradually that has transformed into historical fiction with mild fantasy-esque elements.

I still enjoy speculative fiction (mainly on TV shows and movies these days; I don’t have time for anymore door-stopper epic tomes), as it seems to be the genre that lends itself most easily to tackling issues modern-day issues of diversity, representation, and social justice. Not that it always does, but the potential is there, and discussions around these topics always catch my eye.

    1. Hit the nail on the head. Speculative fiction has such a large capacity to tackle modern-day issues. I think that’s one of the main reasons I’m attracted to it. Hope you come back and possibly contribute to the discussion here. Always looking for another viewpoint. I don’t want to be thinking in a bubble and everyone here helps me stay open and articulate. Thanks!

  3. Hi! Just read your genres post – couldn’t agree more. My current WIP is a ‘mash up’ of genres and I’ve recently started worrying about where I would place it. Something to put aside until it has a stringer voice, but your post certainly has me thinking (damn you, it hurts! ;-)). Keep up the great posts, and remember ‘Just write!’.

    1. Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed that post. It had been on my mind a while. ^_^ I hope it the thinking doesn’t hurt too long! I’ll keep writing, no worries! You to!
